Air Quality Health Advisory In Effect: Friday July 17th
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory due to elevated levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5), which may pose health risks, particularly for sensitive populations. For the air quality index in your area, visit www.AirNow.gov. Air Quality Forecasts are also available on the Department of Environmental Conservation website at https://appfactory.dec.ny.gov/AQI/
Expected Conditions:
- Elevated concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) are expected, which can contribute to unhealthy air quality and may increase health risks for sensitive individuals.

Recommended Safety Actions
- Limit prolonged or strenuous outdoor activities, especially if you are part of a sensitive group.
- If possible, remain indoors with windows closed and use air conditioning or air filtration if available.
- If you must be outdoors, take frequent breaks and reduce strenuous activity.
- Stay aware of symptoms such as eye, nose, or throat irritation, coughing, shortness of breath, or chest discomfort.
- If you experience persistent symptoms or have difficulty breathing, contact your healthcare provider promptly.

Individuals who work or spend extended periods outdoors
Older adults
Infants and young children
Individuals with asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other respiratory or cardiovascular conditions
Pregnant individuals
When extreme heat warnings are in effect the following instructions may be helpful:
| When dangerous heat conditions are expected, they can lead to heat exhaustion or stroke. Consider postponing or rescheduling outdoor activities. Keep children and pets in air conditioning, if possible. IF OUTSIDE: wear light-colored loose clothing and a hat. NEVER leave children or pets in a car. If possible, stay out of the sun and stay in the air conditioning. If you have no air-conditioning and need a place to cool down, visit your local library, mall, recreation center, or pool. Avoid strenuous activity and exercise, especially during the sun’s peak hours: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Drink plenty of fluids – preferably water. Check on your friends, family, and neighbors. If you have signs of heat stroke, seek medical attention immediately. Signs of a heat stroke include: Extremely high body temperatures. Red, hot, and dry skin with no sweat. Rapid, strong pulse. Dizziness, confusion, and unconsciousness. During excessive heat conditions, review the operating hours and call before you go or make a referral, to make sure the location is open.
