Mission Statement

The mission of 211 Long Island is to provide all Long Islanders with a free, comprehensive connection to non-emergency health and human services on a day-to-day basis and in times of disaster. The service is comprised of an online database and a call center, both available 24/7.

With detailed information on over 10,000 health and human services agencies and programs in both Nassau and Suffolk counties, 211 Long Island provides access to essential information for Long Island individuals and organizations. Some examples include:

• job training opportunities
• heating emergencies
• financial or legal counseling
• mortgage/rent assistance
• health services
• food assistance
• substance abuse
• education and training
• child or elder care

211 Long Island Database

The 211 Long Island Database is a free, online directory connecting people to helpful services wherever the Internet is available and wherever people can benefit from its use – in their homes, workplaces, community agencies, schools, and libraries. 211 Long Island Database is current, with information added and updated on a daily basis by Middle Country Public Library. Prior to the 2010 partnership between MCPL and United Way of Long Island, the database served the region for 17 years as the Community Resource Database of Long Island. 211 Call Center

The 211 Long Island Call Center is a free and confidential helpline that easily links people to the services they need. People can call about everything from basic needs like food and shelter to volunteer opportunities, legal services, drug treatment, employment support, childcare, eldercare, and more. The 211 Long Island Call Center is available 24/7 and is accessible by dialing 2-1-1 or by calling 1-888-774-7633 outside Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
