Health Insurance Marketplace

New York Health Insurance Marketplace Extends Open Enrollment for 2018 –the period begins November 1, 2017 through January 31, 2018.

New York State of Health announced that open enrollment in the insurance marketplace would follow the originally scheduled dates of November 1, 2017 through January 31, 2018.

State-run exchanges that have their own enrollment platform, as in New York, have some flexibility in terms of this year’s open enrollment period.   New York’s state-run exchange intends to extend open enrollment until the end of January.

As a side note, the federal government announced a shorter open enrollment schedule of November 1- December 15, 2017, which does not apply in New York State.

In New York, normal effective date rules will apply: people who enroll by December 15 will have coverage effective January 1; those who enroll by January 15 will have coverage effective February 1; and people who enroll between January 16 and January 31 will have coverage effective March 1.
